This is by far the most interesting way of covering a frame or glass. Window tints are used more for protection, privacy, and a bit of comfort. Decorative films are used to show character, color, and give inspiration. Depending on what a client wants, companies will work to produce what can be classed as works of art, head-turners, and a way of bringing in business. Decorative films are most often used on commercial premises or even churches. It is rare to see them in residential homes. Decorative film is just a normal glass film with an imagine imprinted onto it. This is done before the film is installed. So, when it arrives at its destination, all that needs to happen is the application.
The application is very much the same as commercial or residential window tint
applications. The mirror first must be measured so that not only will the film fit, but the image will be the right size as well. Depending on how big the window is, some images might not work well. The glass is then cleaned and checked for any imperfection. Cracks in the window would mean the film might not sit right or it could become damaged. Once everything is in order, the film is lined up with the corners of the window. A sticking part is revealed when the protective film is removed. Water and adhesive solution are then applied, and a scraper is used to smooth down the film bit by bit, ensuring complete smoothness. The finish is often spectacular, and it just catches the eye far better than a standard commercial window would.
Frosted films can either be clear or with images on as well. Frosted glass is far more popular in residential homes, especially in the bathroom. While it is excellent for bathroom privacy, such as through the glass, it is not recommended for use on a shower glass. The constant heat and moisture from the shower may damage a frosted film. Frosted glass is often used for offices that have big open plan glass windows, usually exposing every room. Business offices tend to use either clear frosted glass or decorative frosted glass using their brand logo as the image. Frosted glass with the logo embedded is professional, more interesting to look at, at the same time as providing complete privacy.
It is applied in the same way as window tints, or decorative films would be applied. There is no
difference
because it is frosted, it is simply the chosen design and used as a decorative and privacy feature. Both are extremely easy to clean and maintain. Once installed, decorative glass, whether frosted or clear, lasts well over 10 years before needing restoration or removal.
